DEVICE DIAGNOSTICS / 03
Ghost Touch Test
Hands off. Eyes on. Watch for touches your screen registers on its own.
THE QUICK START
A little touch. A lot of insight.
- 01
Set your device down
Put it on a stable surface. Start the hands-off check and lift your fingers during the countdown.
- 02
Leave the screen alone
During the observation window, every new contact is logged with its time and position.
- 03
Review unexpected input
Check the event log. Repeat with a clean, dry screen to see whether the behavior returns.
GOOD TO KNOW
A few things
to know.
Quick answers. Clear expectations.
What counts as a ghost touch in this test?
Contacts received during the hands-off observation window are logged as possible ghost touches. The tool also flags very large, unusually fast jumps within a single pointer trail. Any intentional contact during the window will also be logged.
Does a flagged touch prove a hardware problem?
No. This is a heuristic check. Accidental contact, moisture, a connected input device, or browser behavior may produce a flag. Repeat the test and compare the timing and position before drawing conclusions.
Can this detect ghost touches outside the browser?
No. The page can only inspect events delivered to its test surface while it is active. It cannot monitor system screens, other apps, or touches intercepted by the operating system.
